Buku ini ditulis oleh Dr. Abdul Kadir Riyadi, salah seorang pensyarah di Universiti Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel Indonesia. Fokus penulisan beliau ialah dalam bidang falsafah dan tasawuf. Buku ini merupakan usaha beliau untuk memberi gambaran secara keseluruhan  tentang idea tasawuf dari satu fasa ke fasa yang lain. Dari segi turutan penulisan, karya bertajuk Arkeologi Tasawuf ini merupakan kesinambungan daripada penulisan beliau sebelum ini bertajuk Antropologi Tasawuf. Penulis berpandangan bahawa tasawuf perlu difahami berdasarkan zaman perkembangannya kerana matlamat tasawuf hanya satu walaupun ia muncul dalam pelbagai rupa. Malah, ilmu ini bersifat fleksibel dan boleh disesuaikan dengan pelbagai bidang ilmu termasuk sosiologi, antropologi dan falsafah. Justeru, perbezaan sisi pandang atau perbincangan utama di dalamnya hanya berupa wajah baru yang dikemas kini daripada asas tasawuf yang sebenar iaitu al-Quran, hadis dan juga ijtihad para ulama.

This book was written by Dr. Abdul Kadir Riyadi, a lecturer in Universiti Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel Indonesia. The focus of his writing is in the field of philosophy and tasawuf. This book is his effort to show the whole image of the idea of tasawuf from one phase to another. His manuscript entitled, Arkeologi Tasawuf is a sequel from his previous manuscript, Antropologi Tasawuf. His point of view is, the science of tasawuf must be understood based on the developmental era because the vision is only one form, eventhough it is in many forms of existence. Besides, this knowledge is flexible and can be integrated with any field of studies including, sociology, anthropology and philosophy. Therefore, different views or debate about the knowledge is only a new updated version based on the basic tasawuf knowledge, Quran, hadith and the scholars' opinions.
