Abstract

Today, the use of digital graphic software has become a necessity in the creative field, including architecture. Digital technology that was once used to be a drafting tool that replaces pen and pencil in the past has grown and developed remarkably over the years to become a more holistic technology that offers new capabilities including high definition image editing, energy modelling and simulation and real-time collaboration. In relation to the development of digital technologies within the industry, the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) have been supplying the industry for years with workforce that is skilful and capable of applying such technologies. However, HEIs need to be sure that they are catching up well with the trends in the industry and are doing enough to equip their graduates with updated skills, particularly in digital technology applications. This paper serves to explore students’ perceptions on the teachings of digital graphics software in the architecture undergraduate programme at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The main instrument used by the research team for primary data collection is via survey method, which was carried out on a set of 31 final year students.
