DA'WAH AS A PROFESSION: BETWEEN OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Dakwah Sebagai Profesion: Antara Peluang dan Cabaran
Abstract
In the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), da'wah was carried out door to door or in the mosque. Da'wah was conveyed by word of mouth. Today, da'wah performed in one place can be heard and seen in various places, whether near or far, by utilizing electronic media. Da'wah can be recorded and viewed later or read from printed media. With communication technology, what was impossible to do years ago can now be done. Modern da'wah can be carried out through home phones, mobile phones, television, computers, and the internet. Such conditions certainly demand that da'wah be presented in an attractive, refreshing, engaging, varied manner, and provide solutions to religious and all problems faced by the ummah. Thus, the ultimate goal of da'wah, which is "happiness in this world and the hereafter," can be achieved. In this regard, this paper aims to discuss how da'wah as a profession can respond to the opportunities and challenges currently faced. Considering that there is no unified perception of da'wah as a profession or as an obligation inherent in all Muslims.
