1. Open Access Policy

Jurnal al-Hikmah is a fully open access scholarly journal. All content published in the journal is made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication without subscription charges or access restrictions.

Jurnal al-Hikmah is committed to the principle that unrestricted access to scholarly research promotes the global exchange of knowledge and enhances the dissemination, visibility, and impact of academic work. In accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and use the full texts of articles for lawful scholarly purposes without requiring prior permission from the publisher or the authors, provided that appropriate attribution is given to the original work.

All articles published in Jurnal al-Hikmah are available online immediately upon publication and may be accessed by researchers, educators, students, policymakers, practitioners, and the general public worldwide without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. Authors retain copyright of their work while granting Jurnal al-Hikmah the right of first publication. The specific terms governing the reuse and distribution of published articles are determined by the licensing agreement stated on each article and outlined in the Journal’s Copyright and Licensing Policy.

Jurnal al-Hikmah does not impose any embargo period on published content. All articles remain permanently accessible through the journal website and designated archiving and preservation systems to ensure long-term availability and scholarly accessibility. Through its open access publishing model, Jurnal al-Hikmah seeks to advance research excellence, foster academic collaboration, and contribute to the development of scholarship in daʿwah, Islamic communication, Islamic studies, and related areas of contemporary scholarly discourse at both national and international levels.

2. Copyright and Licensing Policy

Copyright of articles published in Jurnal al-Hikmah remains with the author(s). By submitting and publishing their work, authors agree to license the article under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, adaptation, and reproduction in any medium, provided that the original work is properly cited. Authors retain the right to use, reproduce, distribute, and archive their published work in accordance with the terms of the CC BY 4.0 licence.

Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission to reproduce any copyrighted materials, including figures, tables, photographs, illustrations, or substantial extracts from other works included in their manuscripts. Jurnal al-Hikmah shall not be held liable for any copyright infringement committed by authors.
The views, interpretations, findings, and opinions expressed in published articles are solely those of the respective authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors, editorial board, publisher, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, or any affiliated institution.

3. Archiving and Preservation Policy

Jurnal al-Hikmah is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its published scholarly content. Published articles are permanently identified through Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registration and are preserved through the digital infrastructure and institutional repository of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The journal website and its published content are regularly backed up to minimise the risk of data loss and to ensure continued accessibility. All published articles remain permanently accessible through the journal’s digital archive and designated institutional preservation systems.

In the event that Jurnal al-Hikmah ceases publication or its primary website becomes unavailable, previously published content will continue to be preserved and made accessible through relevant institutional repositories, DOI infrastructure, and other designated digital preservation mechanisms. Through these measures, Jurnal al-Hikmah seeks to ensure the continuing availability, authenticity, and scholarly accessibility of its published content for future generations of researchers and readers.

4. Author Self-Archiving Policy

Jurnal al-Hikmah supports the dissemination, visibility, and long-term preservation of scholarly research through author self-archiving practices. Authors are permitted to deposit and share the following versions of their manuscripts:

Preprint Version
Authors may deposit the original submitted manuscript prior to peer review (preprint) on personal websites, institutional repositories, subject-specific repositories, or non-commercial preprint servers at any time.

Accepted Manuscript Version
Authors may deposit the accepted manuscript (postprint), following peer review and formal acceptance for publication, in institutional repositories, personal or departmental websites, and academic networking platforms. The deposited version should include appropriate acknowledgement that the work has been accepted for publication in Jurnal al-Hikmah and, where available, provide bibliographic information and a link to the official published article.

Published Version of Record
Authors may freely share and archive the final published PDF version available on the Jurnal al-Hikmah website immediately upon publication. The shared version should retain the complete bibliographic information, copyright and licensing information, DOI, and a link to the official article page on the Jurnal al-Hikmah website. There is no embargo period imposed on any version of the manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to deposit and disseminate their work through:
• institutional repositories;
• subject-specific repositories;
• personal or departmental academic websites; and
• academic social networking platforms such as ResearchGate and Academia.edu.

Any shared version should clearly acknowledge the original publication in Jurnal al-Hikmah and provide a citation and link to the official published version whenever available. This policy is intended to maximise the visibility, accessibility, dissemination, and scholarly impact of research published in Jurnal al-Hikmah while ensuring appropriate attribution to the original publication.

5. Publication Policy

Jurnal al-Hikmah publishes only regular issues and does not accept proposals for special issues, guest-edited issues, conference proceedings, sponsored issues, or sponsored collections. All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal al-Hikmah are evaluated individually through the journal’s established editorial screening and blind peer-review procedures. Acceptance for publication is based solely on academic merit, relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, methodological soundness, originality, ethical compliance, and contribution to the relevant field of scholarship.

Manuscripts arising from conferences, seminars, research projects, or other academic activities may be submitted to the journal only as individual manuscripts and will be subjected to the same editorial and peer-review standards as all other submissions. No manuscript is guaranteed publication on the basis of institutional affiliation, conference participation, sponsorship, funding arrangements, or prior association with the journal. This publication policy is intended to safeguard editorial independence, ensure consistency in scholarly standards and maintain the academic integrity and quality of Jurnal al-Hikmah.

The views, interpretations, findings, and opinions expressed in articles published in Al-Hikmah are those of the respective authors and do not necessarily represent those of the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board, UKM Press, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, or any affiliated institution. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and appropriate attribution of the content presented in their articles. Al-Hikmah, its editors, reviewers, and publisher shall not be held responsible for errors, omissions, or consequences arising from the use of information published in the journal. Publication of an article in Al-Hikmah does not imply endorsement by the journal, UKM Press, or Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia of the views, interpretations, methodologies, or conclusions expressed by the authors.
