Abstract

The aim of this research is to address one of the outstanding contemporary social issues, which is the dowries’ high cost in Bangladeshi society in the light of the hadith of the Prophet, peace be upon him (PBUH), where Islam encouraged and urged marriage since Islam is a righteous religion of a comprehensive system that covers all different aspects of human life. Islam has provided solutions to all life issues, whether regarding a family, society, or economy. It also has identified solutions for late marriages in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, regarding what Abu Hatim Al-Muzni has narrated, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “when someone whose religion and character you are pleased with proposes to (someone under the care) of one of you, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be turmoil (Fitnah) in the land and abounding discord (Fasad)” (Al-Tirmidhi, 1975 AD). Although the Prophet, peace be upon him, recommended the early marriage, but at the present time people do not follow which complicate this issue at the present-day. This study relied on the inductive and descriptive approach. This approach was adopted to collect data related to dowries high-cost issue from old and modern books and literature as well. Also, the analytical approach has been used to reach a conclusion for this problem. The study reached several findings on the very top of them are the problem of dowries high cost and the role of individuals in addressing the problem of dowries high cost. In addition to the role of society in tackling the problem of dowries high cost.
