NEW PERSPECTIVE OF URBAN STREET FOOD IN MICRO ARCHITECTURE IN MALAYSIA

Abstract

The existence of street micro or small architecture is often associated with functional needs of current and local needs such as street food vendors, especially in the cities. At this time, street vendors in Malaysia, especially the activities of the informal sector and is capable of fulfilling the requirements of buyers. These street vendors provide a wide variety of food sources to the buyer at a reasonable price. At the same time, the existence of food-based street vendors also has its own aesthetic values and culture which involve the various ethnic groups in the process of preparing street food. However, despite the existence of small units of street vendors, it has many problems that need to be addressed such as cleanliness, design configurations, security, business location, and traffic and food disposal system. In this study, the definition of street micro architecture will be reviewed to clarify the existence of this small architecture and its involvement in the function of city life. The study will also examine the factors that need to be considered in finding ways to better design approach and can be utilized by the community.
