Etnomatematik bermaksud matematik yang lahir berdasarkan budaya dan sistem nilai sesuatu etnik. Etnomatematik Melayu pula ialah matematik tinggalan tamadun Melayu yang diajar, diucap, diujar, ditulis, dipakai dan dibina dalam bahasa dan mengikut nilai Melayu. Oleh itu, kajian etnomathematik merupakan bidang kajian yang melibatkan penggunaan matematik dalam sesuatu budaya atau bangsa. Dalam budaya Melayu terdapat banyak unsur etnomatematik yang tidak diketahui oleh kebanyakan masyarakat seperti dalam seni bina, seni pertukangan, seni kraf tangan, seni tari, seni muzik, seni suara, seni pertahanan diri, seni pertukangan besi dan seumpamanya. Dengan mendalami seni dan budaya sesuatu bangsa, kita dapat memahami dan menghargai perbezaan antara kita. Fokus utama makalah ini adalah untuk mengkaji kewujudan geometri dalam Tarian Tradisional Melayu, khususnya Tarian Zapin.  Pergerakan langkah tapak kaki yang berulang dalam tarian menghasilkan pelbagai geometri. Kajian ini ingin melihat apakah bentuk-bentuk geometri yang terhasil dan perkaitannya dengan jenis-jenis Tarian Zapin.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics means mathematical births based on the culture and value system of an ethnic. Malay ethnomathematics is the mathematics of Malay civilization which is taught, spoken, written, worn and built in the language and according to Malay values. Therefore, the study of ethnomathematics is a field of study involving the use of mathematics in a culture or nation. In Malay culture there are many ethnomathematics that are not known by most communities such as architecture, artwork, handicrafts, dance art, music art, vocal art, self-defense, ironwork and soon on. By understanding the art and culture of a nation, we can understand and appreciate the differences between us. The main focus of this article is to study the existence of geometry in Malay Traditional Dance, especially in Zapin Dance. The repeated foot movements in dance produce various geometry. The study wanted to see if the forms of geometry were generated and their relation to the types of Zapin Dance.
