Author Guidelines

Types of Contributions

Original papers; review articles; short communications; letters to the Editor. The Journal of Tropical Marine Ecosystem (JTME) provides a coherent international forum for publication of original research or review papers on any aspect of the occurrence in marine ecosystem. Relevant subject areas range from:

1. Biodiversity & Biological Processes

2. Physical & Chemical Processes

3. Sustainability & Development

 

Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically without the written consent of the copyright-holder.

Language and language services

Please write your text in Bahasa Melayu OR English (British usage).

Submission

Authors would be required to submit the source file in Word (doc. & docx) format during the article submission. Authors should not submit the PDF version of their manuscript. Please submit your article to jtme@ukm.my

Article structure

The content of the manuscript are Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements and References. All the contents are using 1.5 spacing. Font Calibri 11. Page limit is 20 pages.

Title

The title should be in capital letter, font 14 and font 11 for title translation, font 10 for address.

Author’n name & address

Author’s name should be in their cited name and in capital letter.

Abstract

A concise and factual abstract is required. The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone. Abstract of the manuscript should be in 10 font size and italic and should not exceeded 300 words. This abstract should be in English and Malay languages. Malay translation service for international authors will be provided.

Keywords

Immediately after the abstract provide a maximum of 5 keywords. Normal calibri 10 font.

Acknowledgements

Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at the end of the article before the references and do not include them on the title page as a footnote to the title.

Units

Follow internationally accepted rules and conventions: use the international system of units (SI). If other units are mentioned, please give their equivalent in SI.

Tables, Figures & Illustrations

Number tables, figures and illustrations consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Place footnotes to tables below the table body and indicate them with superscript lowercase letters. Avoid vertical rules. Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in tables do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article. Please ensure that the prepared electronic images files area of a high quality for publication.

Reference style

References in the text should be denoted by giving the name(s) of the author(s) followed by the date of the reference in parantheses. All alphabetically ordered references list should be included at the end of the manuscript. All references cited in the text must appear in the reference list. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all information in the reference. Manuscripts must conform to the references in Penerbit UKM style or the Chicago Manual of Style (University of Chicago Press ).

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. The content of the manuscript are Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements and References; All the contents are using 1.5 spacing; The title should be in capital letter, font 14 and font 11 for title translation, font 10 for address Font Calibri 11; Page limit is 20 pages.; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  4. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
