EXPLORING VISUAL STRATEGIES AND AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT IN THE PROMOTION OF INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA USING THE SOR FRAMEWORK

Based on the decision-making process of social media participation behavior, specifically the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) framework, this study investigates the factors influencing the promotion of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) on social media through WeChat video accounts. It develops and validates a new measurement scale to assess the impact of visual strategies on audience engagement in promoting ICH. The findings indicate that both visual aesthetics and narrative content significantly shape audience cognition, emotion, and behavioral engagement. Reliability and validity tests confirm the robustness of the measurement tools. Despite these contributions, the study has limitations. The sample was restricted to Universiti Malaysia Kelantan students, which constrains generalizability. In addition, while exploratory factor analysis provided initial validation, the absence of confirmatory factor analysis or structural equation modeling limits the depth of construct validation. Future studies should expand participant diversity and adopt advanced methods to strengthen external validity. This study enriches the theoretical understanding of the SOR framework in cultural communication and offers practical insights for tailoring digital storytelling strategies to specific audiences.

Abstrak
Berdasarkan proses membuat keputusan tentang tingkah laku penyertaan media sosial, khususnya kerangka kerja Stimulus-Organisme-Tindak Balas (SOR), kajian ini mengkaji faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi promosi warisan budaya tidak ketara (ICH) di media sosial melalui akaun video WeChat. Ia membangunkan dan mengesahkan skala pengukuran baharu untuk menilai impak strategi visual terhadap penglibatan khalayak dalam mempromosikan ICH. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa kedua-dua estetika visual dan kandungan naratif membentuk kognisi, emosi dan penglibatan tingkah laku khalayak dengan ketara. Ujian kebolehpercayaan dan kesahan mengesahkan kekukuhan alat pengukuran. Walaupun sumbangan ini, kajian ini mempunyai batasan. Sampel dihadkan kepada pelajar Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, yang mengekang kebolehgeneralisasian. Di samping itu, walaupun analisis faktor penerokaan memberikan pengesahan awal, ketiadaan analisis faktor pengesahan atau pemodelan persamaan struktur mengehadkan kedalaman pengesahan konstruk. Kajian akan datang harus mengembangkan kepelbagaian peserta dan menerima pakai kaedah lanjutan untuk mengukuhkan kesahan luaran. Kajian ini memperkayakan pemahaman teori kerangka kerja SOR dalam komunikasi budaya dan menawarkan pandangan praktikal untuk menyesuaikan strategi penceritaan digital kepada khalayak tertentu.
