PENGAJARAN KARANGAN DARIPADA PERPEKTIF HARAPAN MURID SEKOLAH MENENGAH (Teaching Essay from the Perspective of Secondary School Students’ Expectations)
Abstract
ABSTRAK: Murid menaruh harapan terhadap guru dalam proses pembelajaran. Makalah ini meneroka aspek harapan murid terhadap pengajaran karangan yang dilihat daripada perspektif tiga orang murid sekolah menengah. Kajian ini berbentuk kajian kes pelbagai kes-pelbagai tempat. Tiga orang murid tingkatan lima terlibat sebagai peserta kajian yang dipilih berdasarkan persampelan bertujuan. Instrumen yang digunakan bagi mengumpul data ialah protokol temu bual tidak berstruktur. Data yang diperoleh melalui protokol temu bual tidak berstruktur ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan tematik bagi pembinaan tema untuk menjawab persoalan kajian berkaitan dengan aspek harapan murid terhadap pengajaran karangan. Hasil kajian memperlihatkan lima aspek harapan murid terhadap pengajaran karangan, iaitu pengajaran karangan yang berkualiti, pengajaran karangan yang bertahap-tahap, pengajaran karangan dengan pelbagai kaedah, maklum balas penulisan dan intervensi penulisan. Secara keseluruhan, harapan murid merupakan keperluan murid yang perlu ditumpukan oleh guru bagi memastikan keberkesanan pengajaran karangan.

ABSTRACT: Students have many expectations towards their teacher during the learning process. This paper explores aspects of students' expectations towards essay teaching, seen from the perspectives of three secondary school students. This study adopted the multicase, multisite case study approach. Three form-five students were involved as study participants and were selected through purposeful sampling. A set of unstructured interview protocols was used as a data collection instrument. Data obtained through the unstructured interview protocols were analysed using the thematic approach to construct themes and answer the study questions related to students' expectation in learning essay writing. The results showed five aspects of students' expectations towards essay writing lessons -quality essay teaching, teaching essays in different stages, teaching essay writing through diverse methods, feedback on writing and writing interventions. Overall, teachers should be focused on students' expectations to ensure the effectiveness of essay teaching.
