STRATEGI PEMBELAJARAN KOSA KATA BAHASA MELAYU DALAM KALANGAN PELAJAR ANTARABANGSA DI UNIVERSITI MALAYA (Malay Language Vocabulary Learning Strategy among International Students at Universiti Malaya)
Abstract
Abstrak: Terdapat pelajar yang keliru ketika mempelajari bahasa Melayu dengan menggunakan pelbagai strategi untuk memperoleh pengetahuan dan memahami konsep serta makna yang diungkapkan. Kajian-kajian yang dilakukan sebelum ini lebih kepada kajian pembelajaran bahasa Melayu secara menyeluruh. Maka kajian ini lebih memfokuskan kepada pembelajaran berkaitan kosa kata bahasa Melayu sahaja. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti kekerapan strategi pembelajaran kosa kata bahasa Melayu oleh pelajar antarabangsa serta menghuraikan setiap item kategori strategi tersebut. Bagi meneliti masalah ini, borang soal selidik yang direka berdasarkan kepada Strategi Pembelajaran Kosa Kata daripada Taksonomi Schmitt, (1997) telah dibentuk. Borang soal selidik yang merangkumi 30 item berkaitan strategi pembelajaran kosa kata telah diedarkan kepada pelajar melalui dalam talian. Dapatan data telah dianalisis dengan menggunakan SPSS versi 26.0 untuk meneliti min, sisihan piawai dan interpretasi kajian. Hasil kajian mendapati pelajar antarabangsa lebih memilih untuk menggunakan strategi Memori dengan nilai min 4.00 dan sisihan piawai 1.04 dan memperoleh tahap interpretasi yang tinggi. Pelajar antarabangsa lebih gemar menggunakan kamus semasa mempelajari bahasa Melayu untuk mencari dan mengetahui maksud kosa kata yang dipelajari. Lima strategi yang lain iaitu Strategi Penentuan, Sosial (penemuan), Sosial (pengukuhan), Kognitif dan Metakognitif berada pada tahap interpretasi yang sederhana. Kesimpulannya, strategi pembelajaran kosa kata boleh membantu pelajar untuk lebih menguasai bahasa sama ada di peringkat pembelajaran atau pengukuhan bahasa Melayu.

Abstract: Some students are confused when learning Malay using various strategies to acquire knowledge and understand the concepts and meanings expressed. While the studies conducted previously are more on the study of Malay language learning as a whole. Therefore, this study focuses more on learning related to Malay vocabulary only. Therefore, this study aims to examine the frequency of Malay vocabulary learning strategies by international students and describe each item of the strategy category. A questionnaire form designed based on the Vocabulary Learning Strategies from Schmitt’s Taxonomy, (1997) was developed to examine this problem. A questionnaire covering 30 items related to vocabulary learning strategies was distributed to students online. The data were analyze using SPSS version 26.0 to discuss the study's mean, standard deviation, and interpretation. The study’s results found that international students preferred to use the Memory strategy with a mean value of 4.00 and a standard deviation of 1.04 and obtained a high level of interpretation. International students prefer to use dictionaries when learning Malay to find and know the meaning of the vocabulary learned. While the other five strategies, namely Determination Strategy, Social (discovery), Social (reinforcement), Cognitive and Metacognitive, are at a moderate level of interpretation. In conclusion, vocabulary learning strategies can help students to better master the language either at the level of learning or by strengthening the Malay language.
