Kesedaran Terhadap Peluang Melanjutkan Pengajian ke Institut Latihan Vokasinal (ILV) dalam Kalangan Pelajar Sekolah Menengah Vokasional (SMV) di Negeri Johor

Abstract

ABSTRAK

Di Malaysia, terdapat banyak Institut Latihan Voksional (ILV) telah dibangunkan untuk memberi peluang kepada pelajar terutamanya pelajar jurusan vokasional agar mereka dapat melanjutkan pengajian ke peringkat lebih tinggi. Namun begitu, enrolmen pelajar ke ILV didapati kurang memuaskan. Justeru, kajian tentang tahap kesedaran dalam kalangan pelajar di SMV terhadap peluang melanjutkan pengajian ke ILV perlu dilakukan. Dalam kajian ini seramai 329 orang pelajar Tingkatan 4 aliran vokasional dan 202 orang pelajar Tingkatan 4 aliran kemahiran di tiga buah Sekolah Menengah Vokasional iaitu di Batu Pahat, Muar dan Kluang telah dipilih secara rawak. Satu set soal selidik telah digunakan sebagai instrumen kajian. Analisis deskriptif dan inferensi telah menggunakan perisian Statistic Package of Social Science (SPSS) versi 16.0. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara kedua-dua kumpulan tentang tahap kesedaran terhadap peluang melanjutkan pengajian ke ILV di mana Hnoll ditolak. Pandangan responden Tingkatan 4 aliran vokasional terhadap peluang melanjutkan pengajian ke ILV adalah sederhana dengan nilai pekali kolerasi 0.61 dan signifikan (p) pada aras 0.00. Walau bagaimanapun, hubungan antara faktor dominan dengan tahap kesedaran bagi pelajar Tingkatan 4 aliran kemahiran terhadap peluang melanjutkan pengajian ke ILV tidak dapat disimpulkan kerana mempunyai hubungan yang sangat lemah iaitu dengan nilai pekali kolerasi 0.13. Didapati pelajar tingkatan 4 aliran vokasional mempunyai pandangan yang positif terhadap masa depan mereka untuk menyambung pelajaran di ILV atau mana-mana pusat pengajian tinggi manakala pelajar dari aliran kemahiran melihat peluang mereka melanjutkan pelajaran adalah sangat tipis dan mengambil keputusan untuk menceburi bidang pekerjaan selepas tamat latihan.

ABSTRACT

In Malaysia, there are many Vocational Training Institutes (VTI) were developed to provide opportunities for students, especially students of vocational education so that they can continue their studies to a higher level. However, enrolment into Vocational Secondary Schools (VSS) was unsatisfactory. Therefore, the study on the level of awareness among students at VSS for the opportunity to continue their studies at VTI should be carried out. In this study, 329 Form 4 students and 202 Form 4 vocational students from three Vocational Secondary Schools in Batu Pahat, Muar and Kluang were randomly selected. A set questionnaire were used as research instruments. Descriptive and inferential analyzes were used by SPSS Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0. The results showed that there were significant differences between the two groups regarding the level of awareness of the opportunities to further their studies in any VTI whereby the Hnoll was rejected. Respondents’ view from Form 4 vocational stream upon the opportunities to continue their studies at VTI was moderate with the coefficient of correlation of 0.61, which was of significant (p) at the level of 0.00. However, the relationship between the dominant and the level of awareness for Form 4 students upon the opportunity to continue learning skills in VTI can not be inferred because there was a weak correlation, with the coefficient correlation of 0.13. It was noticed that Form 4 vocational students have a positive view of their future to continue their studies at VTI or any tertiary education, meanwhile students of the skills stream finds their opportunities to further their studies are slim chances and decided to pursue a job after graduation.
