Abstract

This study on leadership analyses the Punch Card System for the public servants in Malaysia. During the 22 years’ leadership of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Malaysia, he implemented a lot of policies and development. To develop public servants, one of the systems launched during that time was the introduction of the punch card system. This study shows that the system was introduced in ensuring that the public servants do not come late to the office or leave from work before the prescribed time. In Islam, Muslims are ordered to be consistent based on what God had ordained. Hence, the public servants should exhibit discipline to overcome lateness in coming to the work. This is because if one exhibit this trait, one will know their priorities and able to prioritise better. Discipline can also be used in assessing time management and promises. In addition, public servants can practice a well ordered and organised work culture besides having good work etiquette and high-level of professionalism. This study was conducted using a qualitative approach and the data were obtained through the checking of documents and analysing the content to obtain the result. The discipline trait is one of the noble traits and forms parts of Muslim core values especially among the Malay community in Malaysia. This is because, with this trait, any management be it, self-management or society management will become faster and well-ordered. Therefore, a good management can increase the standard of every occupation and lead to its prosperity from time to time.
