Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word (*.doc/*.docx) document file format.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a Times New Roman 12-point font for Malay and English manuscript or Traditional Arabic 16-point font for Arabic manuscript.
  • An abstract length not more than 300 words.
  • An additional article's title and abstract translated in English
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Editorial Policy

  1. All authors are invited to contribute their original manuscript to Al-Hikmah.
  2. Al-Hikmah welcomes all forms of manuscript contributions that are either directly or indirectly related to Islamic da’wah perspectives.
  3. Submissions may encompass a wide range of areas, including sociocultural issues, women and family studies, the arts, muallaf (converts), leadership, management, psychology, media, communication and technology, as well as Islamic counselling.
  4. All submitted manuscripts will be assessed by the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, and independent peer reviewers
  5. Authors must complete the online submission form available on the Al-Hikmah journal website and submit their manuscript directly to the Editor-in-Chief.

Publication Ethics

  1. Manuscripts submitted to the editorial team must be original and have not been previously published in any form. Submissions must not be simultaneously under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  2. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy and originality of all materials included in the manuscript, such as illustrations, references, tables, and figures. These materials must not violate any copyright laws or contain elements of plagiarism or duplication.
  3. All submitted manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer review process by a panel of experts affiliated with the journal. Once a manuscript is accepted for publication, it will proceed to language copy-editing, typesetting, and reference validation to ensure the highest possible publication quality.
  4. The editorial team will review all manuscripts for compliance with anonymity standards and may make necessary editorial adjustments. Manuscripts requiring substantial revision will be returned to the authors for correction prior to final acceptance.

Manuscript Specifications

General Guidelines

  1. All submitted manuscripts must adhere strictly to the journal’s formatting and submission requirements. Please use the template here: Article Writing Format & Template.
  2. Manuscript must be typed in the Microsoft Word (*.doc/*.docx) with A4-sized paper.
  3. The text must be single-spaced (1.0 line spacing) using Times New Roman, 12-point font for manuscripts in Malay or English, and Traditional Arabic, 16-point font for Arabic manuscripts. Italics must be used instead of underlining, except for URLs. All illustrations, figures, and tables must be embedded within the text at appropriate locations, not placed at the end of the document.
  4. The abstract must not exceed 300 words.
  5. An English title and abstract must be provided for manuscripts written in Malay or Arabic.
  6. Word count must be between 4,000 and 7,000 words, excluding abstracts and references.
  7. In-text citations must follow the author–date system, and every source cited in the text must be listed in the reference list. 
  8. The manuscript must adhere to Gaya UKM writing guidelines.
  9. The Turnitin Similarity Score must be less than 15% and AI range less than 10%.
  10. Manuscript must include:
    • Title of manuscript with English translation;
    • Full names of all authors, including their affiliations, institutional addresses, email addresses and ORCHID ID.
    • Conflict of Interest Statement
      A declaration of any potential conflicts of interest. If none, please state: “The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest.”

    • Acknowledgements
      A section to acknowledge individuals, institutions, or funding bodies that supported the research. If there is none, please write: “None.”

    • Author Contributions
      A clear statement specifying the individual contributions of each author to the manuscript. For example:
      “Author A conceptualised the study and drafted the manuscript. Author B conducted data collection and analysis. All authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript.”

    • Ethic statment 
      A section to declare that the study has obtained ethical approval from the relevant institutional ethics committee or review board. If ethical approval is not required (e.g., theoretical papers or literature reviews), please state: “This study did not require formal ethical approval.”

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

The editorial board and UKM Press hold the copyright to articles published in this journal following the completion of the copyright transfer agreement. Authors retain the moral rights to their work and are permitted to share and distribute their published articles for non-commercial purposes, provided that proper attribution is given to Al-Hikmah and UKM Press as the original publisher, in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).
