ISLAMIC APPROACH TO TERRORISM
Pendekatan Islam Terhadap Keganasan
Abstract
This study discusses Islam and peace, emphasizing that Islam always advocates for peace and urges Muslims to avoid aggression, permitting fighting only in self-defense. This principle is applicable in the past, present, and future, and it is the responsibility of any state to protect its citizens and ensure their security by defending against aggression. Self-defense is a natural right recognized by divine laws, statutory laws, and international law. The study also addresses Islam and the dialogue of civilizations, affirming that Islam rejects violence, extremism, and terrorism, advocating for love, justice, and tolerance. Islam has accepted and engaged in dialogue with other religions, showing that it is not closed off but rather open to those religions. The importance of studying this topic arises from the association of extremism and terrorism with Islam and Muslims. Thus, it is necessary to examine Islam's position on extremism and affirm that Islam is a religion of moderation, with terrorist groups representing themselves rather than Islam. Islam is innocent of such acts, and the study uses an analytical method to reach several conclusions, the most important being that Islam is a religion of love, harmony, and peace, calling for peaceful coexistence among peoples and rejecting violence, extremism, and terrorism, as evidenced by its call for the dialogue of civilizations.
