THE LEVEL OF MEMORISATION AMONG TAHFIZ MODEL ULUL ALBAB (TMUA) SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract
The implementation of Tahfiz Model Ulul Albab (TMUA) programme is one of the government's continuity efforts in expanding tahfiz education to secondary school pupils. After six years of implementation of the programme, there were a number of problems arose such as the level of achievement of students' memorisation less satisfactory. Literatures show that not all pupils who attended the programme could complete the memorisation of 30 chapters of the Quran within five years of study as outlined by the Ministry of Education, MOE. Hence, the researcher would like to see the level of memorisation of KPM’s TMUA secondary school students. The study is a descriptive quantitative study of 829 secondary school TMUA pupils. Mean score analysis is used to see the level of achievement of their memorisation. The results of the analysis show that the level of achievement of pupils' memorisation is moderately high with a mean score of 3.67. The findings also show that there are three challenges faced in the implementation of TMUA namely the system challenge, the challenge from teachers and the challenge from students. Hence, the existed challenges and problems need to be improved and addressed together to realise the national expectations. The teachers’ pedagogical skills, the memorisation techniques practiced by pupils as well as other matters that contribute to the success of the students in memorisation should be given due attention to ensure that the TMUA implementation goals are achieved successfully.
