MALAY COMMUNITY IN MECCA : A STUDY OF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND WAY OF LIFE
Komuniti Melayu di Mekah : Satu Kajian Tentang Latar Belakang Sejarah dan Cara Hidup
Abstract
The Malay community or better known as Java among the people of Mecca has begun to receive great attention, especially among historians. This may be because the number of members of this community is so large and famous in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia compared to other communities. Malaysian Muslims, especially the Malays, are closely related to the holy city of Mecca because they, as Muslims, are very concerned about implementing the fifth pillar of Islam, which is the pilgrimage. They are also concerned to gain as much knowledge as possible so that many of them become great scholars upon returning to their homeland. This article is an initial attempt to explore the reasons why the Malay community migrated to the holy city of Mecca.
