MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS FACING ONLINE LEARNING AND OVERCOMING METHODS ACCORDING TO ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

The presence of COVID-19, which has hit the whole world, has changed the learning system from face-to-face learning to online learning at every level, whether at the school or higher education level. However, online learning is not an easy thing for students. It leaves various effects, including mental health disorders, if not managed well. The problems that happen to students during online learning involve psychological problems such as anxiety, stress, emotional disorders and depression to adapt to the new norm. This study aims to identify mental health problems experienced by students while learning online and analyze the methods used by students to overcome mental health problems while learning online from an Islamic perspective. This study uses a quantitative analysis with a survey research design through convenience sampling. A total of 50 respondents were selected to complete this study consisting of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia students. The study found that students' mental health disorders during online learning were under control. The study also found that among the methods of cognitive management according to the Islamic perspective practised by students such as complaining to God, praying, drawing closer to God, zikr, prayer, being grateful for God's favours and seeking forgiveness.
