A STUDY OF THE APPRECIATION OF WORSHIP AND THE SKILLS OF AL-QUR'AN AMONG THE RESIDENTS OF PULAU TINGGI, MERSING JOHOR
Kajian Penghayatan Ibadah dan Kemahiran Al-Quran dalam Kalangan Penduduk Pulau Tinggi, Mersing Johor
Abstract
The Research Project and the University Social Responsibility (USR) were combined into one to have a greater impact on the spiritual and identity development of Muslims in Pulau Tinggi Mersing Johor. The project involved nine programmes conducted for four days and three nights face-to-face with the villagers. The programme involved is (1) Tahsin al-Fatihah Programme; (2) Funeral Management Workshop Programme; (3) EKSA Innovation Programme of the Quran Skills Room of the Pulau Tinggi Religious School; (4) Smart Prayer Program; (5) Research Programme on the Level of Appreciation of Worship among the residents of Pulau Tinggi; (6) Congregational Prayer, Terawih and Qiamullail Prayer; (7) Khatam al-Quran Council (8) Village Iftar and the last program (9) Asnaf Donation. The Study of Worship Appreciation and Al-Quran Skills involved 92 study respondents among the villagers. The research methodology uses questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaires were randomly targeted at Muslim villagers aged seven years and above. Meanwhile, the interview method was conducted to the Head of the Pulau Tinggi Village, the Penghulu of the islands, a teacher of the Pulau Tinggi National School and a teacher of the Pulau Tinggi Religious School to obtain data to support the study. The results of the study can see that the level of appreciation of worship is at a moderate level in terms of the ability to read the Quran, the appreciation of five daily prayers, Friday prayers and congregational prayers in the mosque. Among the constraints that occur is due to the employment factor of the main population as fishermen who have an uncertain work schedule. The proposal that this project be continued periodically to help the villagers in addition to the economic development project of the population must also be jointly intensified.
