ROLE AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IN LITERARY WORKS BASED ON AL- QURAN: AN ANALYSIS OF THE STORY OF PROPHET YUSUF

Abstract

Stories in literary works have similarities with stories in the Quran in terms of elements that build stories, including character and character. The story of the Qur'an is not suitable for imitation, on the contrary, it is suitable as a guide in the production of works. Surah Yusuf (TSY) technique is a guide to writing works based on the story of the Prophet Yusuf (a.s) in Surah Yusuf introduced by Mrs Ainon Mohd. However, TSY is not divided according to the elements in the story, the references used are using the Quran and Malay or English translations only. This study examines the character and character aspects of the Prophet Yusuf (a.s) in Surah Yusuf (a.s) by presenting descriptions from the books of tafsir as well as scientific studies that have been made regarding the story of the Prophet Yusuf (a.s). This study found that Prophet Yusuf (a.s) carried 6 characters: children, brothers, servants, friends, leaders and messengers of Allah SWT. The character of the Prophet Yusuf (a.s) reflects the all-round goodness encompassing both internal and external aspects. Proper character and character development guidelines are important to guide authors to produce works that make it easier for readers to relate Islamic values to their daily lives.
