DA'I AND FATWA COMPETENCE
Da’i dan Kompetensi Berfatwa
Abstract
The study of ifta' or issuing fatwas is a compelling topic, especially given its relevance in addressing problems faced by society and asked during daily da'wah activities. Recently, fatwa issues have become a hot topic in Indonesia, with scholars from various disciplines presenting their views, particularly following the Fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued during the National Deliberation (Munas) from July 27-29, 2005. Although some of the fatwas from this Munas reaffirm earlier MUI fatwas established during Munas II in 1980, the recent fatwa declared the Ahmadiyya movement as outside Islam and labeled its followers as apostates, urging them to return to Islam in accordance with the Qur'an and Hadith. Additionally, MUI declared that communal prayers are not recognized in Islam and are considered bid'ah (innovation). Communal prayers led by non-Muslim figures are deemed unlawful, while those led by Muslim figures are considered permissible, along with several other fatwas.
