Ciri-Ciri Personaliti dan Kepimpinan Pengetua Kolej Kediaman yang Ideal dari Perspektif Pelajar

Kertas kerja ini melaporkan hasil kajian tinjauan mengenai pandangan pelajar mengenai ciri-ciri personaliti dan kepimpinan yang seharusnya dimiliki oleh pengetua kolej kediaman. Seramai 274 orang pelajar UKM yang menginap di kolej kediaman di dalam kampus telah dipilih secara rawak untuk mengambil bahagian dalam kajian ini. Mereka diberikan satu soal selidik yang mengandungi 31 item berskala 5 likert berkaitan dengan ciri-ciri pengetua yang digemari oleh pelajar. Analisa faktor yang dijalankan mendapati terdapat tiga faktor utama dalam pencirian sifat kepimpinan pengetua: Sifat Bertanggungjawab, Personaliti Positif dan Sokongan. Faktor Bertanggungjawab dan Personaliti Positif berkorelasi positif (r = 0.619). Tidak ada hubungan di antara Faktor Sokongan dengan Bertanggungjawab dan Personaliti Positif. Implikasi dan batasan kajian terhadap aspek pemilihan pengetua dibincangkan.

 

ABSTRACT

 

This paper reports the survey on the students’ perception on the personality and leadership characteristics supposedly owned by a residential principal. A total number of 274 undergraduate students living at several residential colleges in the campus were randomly selected as participants. They were given one self-designed questionnaire consisting of 31 items with 5 Likert-scale point related to the preferred characteristics of residential principal. Factor analysis indicated that three major factors underlying the characteristics of residential principal were extracted: Responsibility, Interpersonal Relation and Support. The Responsibility and Interpersonal Relation factors were positively correlated (r = 0.619). There was no significant relationship between the Support and Responsibility and Interpersonal Relation. The implication and limitations of the study on the selection process of the residential principal were discussed.
