AN EARLY ANALYSIS OF THE SELECTION OF SOULMATES AMONG MEN IN KOTA BHARU, KELANTAN
Analisis Awal Pemilihan Jodoh Kaum Lelaki Di Kota Bharu, Kelantan
Abstract
The liberty that men has in selecting their suitable and right soulmates is something that is not easy to be done. They need to select some ideal partners who meet the Islamic syariah compliance. This is important because marriage is a form and recognized union of a man and a woman as partners in a kind of relationshipthat lasts forever. The purpose of this research is to discuss methods of selecting soulmates based on the criteria that the Prophet PBUHhas underlined wealth, ancestry, beauty and religion. This study used a quantitative method with questionnaires as instruments distributed to 178 unmarried (bachelor) men in Kota Bharu. The findings showed that majority of the men in Kota Bharu liked to select their own partners or soulmates compared to relying on the selections made by the parents (arranged marriage). In terms of the criteria in selecting the women, majority of the men selected women who are religious as the first criterion and followed by those who are motherly, pretty, possess good background, educated, able to live in the community, wealth, originallyfrom Kelantan and lastly they should be single. Respondents believe that the soulmate selection that is based on the Islamic syariah compliance would give good effects on the marriage.
