Abstract

High job satisfaction plays a significant role in the development and enhancement of the professional level of residential college principals at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The leadership style of residential college principals is often associated with staff job satisfaction. An effective leadership style is frequently seen as contributing to high job satisfaction, and vice versa. Accordingly, this paper will examine the relationship between the leadership style of principals and staff job satisfaction. The study was conducted on a group of staff at Rahim Kajai College, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The study results show no significant difference in job satisfaction between genders. The findings also indicate that a democratic leadership style contributes to high job satisfaction, whereas autocratic and laissez-faire leadership styles contribute to low job satisfaction. This paper will also discuss several interventions that can be implemented to enhance job satisfaction and develop and improve the professionalism of residential college principals at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
