THE ISLAMIC COUNSELLING APPROACH IN ADDRESSING ANXIETY AMONG ADOLESCENTS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS (HEIS)

Abstract

Anxiety among youth in higher learning institutions (HLIs) has become an increasingly profound and complex issue. The rise in anxiety-related problems stems from various factors, including changes and pressures in multiple aspects of life. The Islamic counselling approach has the potential to serve as an effective method in addressing this issue. Therefore, this study aims to identify the factors contributing to anxiety among university youth and to analyse the application of Islamic counselling in addressing such concerns. This study employs a qualitative research design using content analysis of previous studies, journal articles, and relevant scholarly works. The findings reveal that anxiety among HLI students is influenced by multiple factors, such as academic pressure, uncertainty about the future, technological influences, and economic challenges. The study also finds that Islamic counselling has a positive impact on reducing anxiety levels among youth, thereby enhancing their overall social well-being. This approach integrates Islamic religious values as a foundation for providing emotional and psychological support to youth experiencing anxiety. The article highlights the importance of Islamic counselling in supporting the emotional and spiritual development of students in HLIs. With a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by university youth, Islamic counselling is expected to contribute significantly to the formation of balanced individuals who are better equipped to face life’s challenges.
