Modenisasi Industri Rumpai Laut : Kajian Kes Di Semporna, Sabah

Abstract

Kajian ini mengenalpasti ciri-ciri penerimaan teknologi moden yang digunakan oleh pengusaha rumpai laut di Semporna, Sabah. Kaedah temubual separa berstruktur dilakukan untuk mendapatkan data daripada informan. Enam informen dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik persampelan bertujuan sehingga mencapai titik ketepuan data. Kaedah analiis tematik dugunakan untuk mengenalpasti tema dan hubungan antara tema dengan menggunakan bantuan perisian Nvivo. Hasil kajian mendapati terdapat trend modenisasi teknologi dan kelangsungan kaedah konvensional dalam industry rumpai laut. Penerimaan teknologi moden dalam kaedah penanaman rumpai laut dari aspek pengurusan benih, sistem ikat benih, penjagaan rumpai laut, dan proses penuaian. Walaubagaimanapun, hasil kajian mendapati sistem pengeringan yang menggunakan teknologi moden tidak dipraktikkan di kawasan kajian. Terdapat juga pengusahayang masih menggekalkan kaedah konvensional dalam penanaman rumpai laut dan terdapat juga informan yang menggunakan kaedah penanaman separuh moden dan separuh konvensional. Penerimaan teknologi moden berlaku tetapi belum secara menyeluruh dan wujud faktor yang menyebabkan pengusaha masih kekal dalam penggunaan kaedah konvensional dan begitu juga kepada informan yang menggunakan kaedah campuran. Faktor yang menyebabkan informen masih kekal pada kaedah konvensional ada disebabkan oleh kewarganegaraan yang mengekang kepada penerimaan teknologi yang disalurkan oleh pihak Jabatan Perikanan Sabah. Manakala, informen yang menggunakan kaedah campuran adalah informen yang tidak terlibat secara langsung dalam projek kluster dibawah pemerhatian JPS.

ABSTRACT

This study identify the characteristics of modern technological acceptance amongst seaweed operators in Semporna, Sabah. A semi-structured interview was utilized to obtain data from the informant. Six informants were selected using the purposive sampleing technique after reaching the saturation level. A thematic analysis was undertaken to identify relevant themes and establish relations between themes using the Nvivo software. The study reveal both technological modernization trend and continued used of conventional methods in the seaweed industry. Modern technological acceptance in the cultivation of sea weed was witnessed in the areas of seed management, seed integration system, seaweed monitoring and harvesting process. However, a key component of the technological modernization of drying system was not practiced in this study area. Besides that, there were operators who still practiced conventional menthod of sea weed cultivation, and there some who utilized semi-modern and semi-conventional cultivation methods.The acceptance of modern technology is not widespread and there were several factors that contribute to the persistence of usage of conventional and mix methods in sea weed farming. One of the key factors for the persistence of conventional farming practices is due to the presence of foreigners that constrained the technological acceptance of operators as the Sabah Fisheries Department(JPS) provides to the locals only.Meanwhile, those operators who use mix method in seaweed harvesting were not directly involved in cluster projects undertaken by JPS.
