The Relationship Between Yoga Practise, Psychological Well – Being And Mindfulness

Abstract

Kesejahteraan psikologi memainkan peranan dalam kehidupan seseorang individu kerana mampu memberikan impak positif ke atas diri. Pengabaian aspek ini dikhuatiri boleh menjejaskan proses kehidupan seharian sehingga mendatangkan pelbagai masalah. Satu kajian dilakukan bertujuan mengkaji hubungan pengamalan Yoga, kesejahteraan psikologikal dan minda di bawah ketarasedar. Sejumlah 125 pengamal Yoga dalam kalangan dewasa yang berasal dari kawasan Lembah Klang, Malaysia telah terlibat melalui kaedah persampelan bertujuan dan bola salji. Kajian kuantitatif ini menggunakan Yoga Self – Efficacy Scale untuk mengukur kompetensi Yoga (fokus, kemudahan, dan kekuatan) manakala The Warwick – Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS)digunakan untuk mengukur aspek positif kesejahteraan subjektif dan fungsi psikologi. Peranan minda di bawah ketarasedar diukur dengan menggunakan Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory (FMI). Dapatan kajian menunjukkan hubungan signifikan antara pengamalan Yoga, kesejahteraan psikologikal dan tahap minda di bawah ketarasedar. Dapatan kajian mampu memberi kesan besar dalam kalangan pengamal Yoga berkaitan dengan kesejahteraan psikologikal seterusnya memberi impak ke atas kesihatan mental yang sempurna. Penyelidikan lebih lanjut yang menumpukan pada kesan penglibatan Yoga dalam kumpulan klinikal adalah digalakkan.

ABSTRACT

Psychological well -being plays crucial role in the life of an individual due to its ability to provide positive impact on oneself. It is feared that neglecting this aspect can affect the process of daily life, leading to various problems. This study aimed to examine the role of Yoga practice on psychological well -being and mindfulness. A total of 125 Yoga practitioners among adults fromKlang Valley, Malaysia were recruited through purposive sampling and snowball methods. This quantitative study used the Yoga Self-Efficacy Scale to measure an individual’s competence to maintain the three basic qualities of Yoga (focus, ease, and strength) while The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS) was used to measure positive aspects of subjective well-being and psychological functioning. The role of the mind under consciousness, were measured using the Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory (FMI). Studies show a significant relationship between Yoga practice, psychological well – being and mindfulness. The findings of the study have the greatest impact among Yoga practitioners in relation to psychological well -being leading to improved mental health. Further research focusing on the effects of Yoga involvement in clinical groups is encouraged.
