Ulasan Buku: Islam, Science, Muslims and Technology by Seyyed Hossein Nasr in Conservation with Muzaffar Iqbal
Abstract
This book is divided into three comprehensive and interrelated sections discussing the dilemmas of science andtechnology with religion faced by Islam and its followers. The first part consists of two chapters with four sessions of conversation, while the second part also contains four similar sessions between Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Muzaffar Iqbal on selected themes. The final section discusses the broader views of both scholars on controversial issues in the Islamic world. Both aim to address these issues in a relaxed conversation interwoven with scientific facts, highlighting high academic discourse. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, a renowned Islamic thinker and professor at George Washington University, and Muzaffar Iqbal, a Pakistani scholar with a background in chemistry, explore various themes including the relationship between Islam and science, the necessity of integrating Islamic philosophy with scientific endeavors, and the impact of modern technology on Muslim life and the environment. They argue for a balanced approach to science and technology that respects Islamic principles and traditions, and they critique the modern, secular perspective that often neglects spiritual dimensions. This book provides a foundation for understanding how authentic Islamic science can be revived to contribute positively to contemporary civilization.
