CHALLENGES OF DA'WAH IN MALAYSIA BEFORE AND AFTER INDEPENDENCE
Cabaran Dakwah di Malaysia Sebelum dan Selepas Merdeka
Abstract
Da'wah in Malaysia has a unique historical foundation. The discovery of various artifacts such as inscriptions, gravestones, and gold dinars indicates that Islam has been established in the country for a long time. The role of Sufi scholars and Muslim traders in spreading Islam has further solidified its presence in the country. Before independence, the process and challenges of da'wah were not overly complex but had to contend with critical situations, such as the Kaum Tua-Kaum Muda conflict. After independence, da'wah faced more diverse and critical challenges. The increasing and heterogeneous population, issues with approaches, internal Muslim issues, and conflicts with other ideologies and beliefs are among the challenges faced by da'wah in the new century. This article attempts to discuss issues related to the challenges of da'wah in Malaysia before and after independence.
