SELF-ADJUSTMENT OF CONVERTS TO SOCIETY AMONG STUDENTS OF THE PERKIM ISLAMIC DAKWAH INSTITUTE (IDIP)

Abstract

Self-adjustment is defined as an individual's continuous interaction with themselves, others, society, and the outside world. The challenges faced by reverts in adjusting to society are often linked to apostasy due to their still-weak faith in Islam and their inability to adapt, leading to frustration with the new situation they face. This study aims to analyze the types of challenges faced by reverts and the forms of education and practical training provided by the Institut Dakwah Islamiah PERKIM (IDIP) in educating and training these individuals. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the level of self-adjustment of reverts to society. The research methodology is quantitative, using survey methods with 100 revert respondents at IDIP Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Questionnaires were distributed using simple random sampling. The data collected were processed and analyzed quantitatively using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences version 20 software. Two main challenges faced by reverts after embracing Islam were identified: being ridiculed by family for converting to Islam and being labeled as becoming Malay. The study's findings on the education and training provided by IDIP to reverts showed positive results, with effectiveness demonstrated by the high scores indicating the reverts' ability to adjust to society. This study has positive implications for the development of da’wah by finding new methods to assist Muslim preachers in spreading Islamic teachings among non-Muslims in Malaysia.
